Liquid chromatography(LC) : SEC-MALS (Size Exclusion Chromatography-Multiangle light scattering)

Test Introduction

One of the methods to analyze the physical and chemical properties of the biomedicine, size exclusion chromatography (SEC) is an effective tool that is generally used to study protein aggregation. SEC separates the protein in different sizes by measuring the molecular weight, and it is often used to characterize aggregation. Most of the SEC systems use a single concentration detector such as using UV rays, but it is possible to measure the molecular weight of the protein regardless of the retention volume when applying light scattering. Also, the measurement of the monomers, oligomers, and the agglomerates of the sample allows for the further understanding of the element’s movement. Moreover, the use of multi-angle light scattering (MALS) provides the measurement of the radius of the gyration (Rg) of the molecules that scatter anisotropic light.
